Paragon, West London

This prestigious inner city project for Berkley First is situated on a 2ha brownfield site directly to the north of the elevated section of the M4 motorway in West London and is surrounded by existing development. The aim of the project is to provide student and key worker accommodation.

This is the first time a modular construction has been used for a unique high rise scheme and is the world's tallest modular building.

With ground breaking innovation the seventeen storey structure comprises of 577 modules totalling to 839 en-suite student bedrooms with dining and communal areas.

Alan Wood & Partners were responsible for the full modular design, which comprised of all types of complex difficulties that could arise when dealing with such a large and unusual project.

This called for careful consideration of the interaction of the traditional core and transfer structure, the wind loads were an important part of this project due to the height and position to resist the higher wind loads as this could cause the modules to twist.
