Project: Heworth Green
Location: York
Client: Persimmon Homes (York) / Heworth Green JV
Consulting Engineer: Alan Wood & Partners
Project Value: £20 million
Description:
The development involved Alan Wood & Partners starting with a topographic survey, drainage for the foul and surface water, pumping station, highways, piled foundations and reinforced concrete design.
The site is situated along the side of the River Foss on the former gas works, due to the nature of the previous use, a huge amount of contaminated material was removed from the site, allowing the creation of a large underground car park for the 5 storey development.
The site partly lies within a flood risk area, Alan Wood and partners therefore carried out a flood risk assessment, with particular attention being paid to the car park. The proposed drainage system reflected the findings of this.
The sub structure was required to support 5 traditionally constructed masonry apartment blocks, and consisted of a piled foundation with reinforced concrete base slab, transfer slab and support columns.
