Description:

Scarborough Police Station

The project comprised of a four storey extension (1750 sq.m.) to the existing police headquarters and an extensive refurbishment and recladding of the existing building (2500 sq.m.). A glazed link corridor was provided between each of the buildings with temporary accommodation and a phased programme of works to maintain full police operation at all times.

The new structure comprised of a steel frame with precast concrete floors and traditional concrete pad foundations locally deepened to account for existing 1900’s basements on the site.

The existing structure comprised of a reinforced concrete framed building which was re-clad with a new terracotta rainscreen supported off an independent steel “skeleton” framework around the existing.

The custody suite comprised of single and two storey elements of traditional masonry construction supported off a raft foundation utilised due to the presence of deep drains.
