Reading Room Extension plan

Alan Wood & Partners designed the extension in accordance with recommended guidelines for teaching spaces and satisfied strict acoustic requirements without recourse to costly acoustic consultants.

Natural light was maximised with a specialised glazing to avoid excessive solar gain during the summer months and excessive heat loss during the winter.

The works were undertaken during the school term and consequently Alan Wood & Partners developed a detailed CDM Health & Safety Plan to fulfil our duty of care as the Planning Supervisor for the project.

In order to negate the possibility of children accessing the works, the courtyard area was securely sealed off and all building materials and waste were craned into the school over the existing buildings.
