Alan Wood & Partners expansion into the Northeast started in 2024 with a strategic plan for a new office in Stockton-on-Tees to support the transformational changes and bold regeneration programme planned for the region.

The office is located on the riverside business park on Pearson Way, Thornaby, to the west of Durham University Queen’s Campus and Stockton Riverside College. It specialises in civil & structural engineering, across a range of sectors including residential, retail & leisure, commercial, industrial, roads & bridges and energy & power.

Paul Burrell, recently appointed in February 2025 as Office Director, brings over 25 years of experience in civil & structural engineering and a wealth of expertise to build & lead our service offering and ambitious growth plan.

With over 25 years of industry experience, Paul Burrell is a highly skilled and respected professional. Joining Alan Wood & Partners in February 2025, he is leading on the establishment and growth of our newest office in Stockton-on-Tees; driving our expansion into the North East.

Specialising in structural inspection, analysis, design, and construction, Paul’s expertise covers a broad range of sectors, including residential, retail & leisure, commercial, education, roads & bridges, energy & power and high-hazard environments such as nuclear & defence. His career spans both engineering consultancy and client-focused roles, managing a project’s lifecycle from initiation through to operation.

Paul has successfully led multi-million-pound civil & structural projects, including supporting the redevelopment of shipbuilding facilities in Barrow-in-Furness and, more recently, overseeing a major project to redevelop Catterick Garrison’s town centre, which includes a new steel framed community & enterprise building, a multi-use events space and new public square.

Paul is a Chartered Engineer and a member of the Institution of Structural Engineers.
