The role

With a minimum of five years' experience in the field, you will play a key role in designing, developing, and delivering effective solutions in civil engineering, drainage, Sustainable Urban Drainage Systems (SuDS), external works, and paving. Your work will be essential in ensuring compliance with all relevant industry regulations and environmental standards.

This position offers the opportunity to contribute to a wide variety of projects across multiple sectors, including education (schools, colleges, and universities), commercial, residential, industrial, petrochemical, food, and energy. You will bring your technical knowledge and practical expertise to each project, adding real value throughout the design and delivery process.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Designing and detailing drainage systems and external works.
  • Preparing and submitting S104, S38, and S278 packages.
  • Producing technical documentation such as:
    • Flood Risk Assessments
    • Drainage Impact Assessments
  • Ensuring all designs and documentation comply with statutory requirements and industry best practices.
  • Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams and conducting on-site assessments as needed.
  • Delivering clear, concise technical reports to support planning applications and project delivery.
  • Providing guidance and mentorship to junior staff to maintain high technical standards.
  • Building and maintaining strong working relationships with clients, stakeholders, and regulatory bodies.
  • Using Autodesk AutoCAD Civil 3D and Autodesk InfoDrainage (MicroDrainage) proficiently.
  • Managing your own workload in a structured and proactive manner.
  • Leading projects from both a technical and project management perspective.
  • Managing project fees and costs, balancing resource demands, and prioritising delivery to meet deadlines and client expectations.

 

Required for the position

To be successful in this role, you should meet the following requirements:

  • Minimum 5 years' experience.
  • A bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering. A master's degree would be an advantage.
  • Chartered Engineer status with a relevant professional body.
  • Proficiency in using industry-standard software for structural analysis and design.
  • Excellent knowledge of relevant codes and regulations.
  • Strong leadership and project management skills.
  • Effective communication abilities, both written and verbal, to engage with clients and team members.
