Bringing Sheffield Heritage back to Life

22 August 2025

Alan Wood & Partners Sheffield office is proud to be supporting the restoration of the city’s iconic Town Hall.

Appointed via Rider Levett Bucknall, Project Managers, our team is providing a range of services including civil and structural engineering, conservation advice and design input to help safeguard the building’s future. The restoration works will address essential upgrades such as

  • improved accessibility
  • enhanced fire safety
  • structural repairs
  • and the careful preservation of the Town Hall’s rich historic features.

Our Conservation Accredited Engineer, Jenny Bulmer, is leading on the structural conservation of this landmark. She will be overseeing detailed assessments, advising on sensitive repair techniques, structural alterations and ensuring the works meet the highest conservation standards. As one of only two Grade I listed buildings in Sheffield City Centre, the Town Hall requires an approach that balances modern performance with respect for its heritage.

Reflecting on the project, Jenny said: “Alan Wood & Partners has a strong track record in supporting heritage estates, most recently working on the restoration of Leeds Town Hall and the transformation of the Grade I listed Hull Minster. We take great pride in preserving these assets and see our role as caretakers of our heritage and culture. Being entrusted with such significant and historically important projects is something our team finds hugely rewarding. We are excited to be part of the team delivering Sheffield City Council’s vision for the Town Hall.”
