The role

Alan Wood and Partners, an agile, positive, employee-focussed, problem-solving civil and structural engineering consultancy, is seeking a talented individual to join our new team as an Associate Structural Engineer.

As an Associate Structural Engineer, you will play a key role in leading and managing projects from concept through to completion.

Your responsibilities will include:

Leading the structural engineering design process, ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations
Overseeing and reviewing technical drawings, calculations, and specifications
Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to develop integrated design solutions
Mentoring and providing technical guidance to junior and less experienced engineers
Building and maintaining strong relationships with clients and stakeholders
Contributing to business development activities and identifying opportunities for growth.

Required for the position

To be successful in this role, you should meet the following requirements:

Chartered Engineer status with a relevant professional body
A degree in civil or structural engineering (or equivalent)
A minimum of 10 years post-chartered experience working within an engineering design consultancy, with a focus on designing and delivering complex projects
Capable of leading multiple projects, ranging from small to large sizes, without supervision and chairing concept and detailed design reviews as part of a staged design delivery process.
Structural design and assessment of concrete, steel, masonry, and timber structures, using current U.K. Standards and Eurocodes
Proficient in the use of industry-standard software for structural analysis and design, e.g., Tekla Structural Designer (TSD) or similar
Capable user of design spreadsheets, e.g., Excel and TEDDS, and knowledge of detailing packages, e.g., AutoCAD and Revit
Specifying construction information, e.g., using NBS
Able to complete structural condition surveys and reports to a high standard and to tight deadlines
You should be enthusiastic, engaging, and a team player
Strong leadership and project management skills
Skilled in effective communication abilities, both written and verbal, to engage with clients and team members
