The role

Alan Wood and Partners, an agile, positive, employee-focused, problem-solving civil and structural engineering consultancy, is seeking a talented individual to join our new team as a Senior Structural Engineer.

As a Senior Structural Engineer within the structural team, your primary focus will be to undertake structural engineering design, ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations

You will contribute to and oversee the production of technical drawings, calculations, and specifications while collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to develop integrated design solutions. You will be expected to mentor and provide technical guidance to junior engineers, uphold high technical standards, and build and maintain strong relationships with clients and stakeholders.

You will need to organise your work systematically, collaborating with colleagues to manage fluctuations in resource demand, and assist in prioritising project delivery.

Required for the position

To be successful in this role, you should meet the following requirements:

Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status with a relevant professional body or working towards
A degree in civil or structural engineering (or equivalent). A master’s degree would be an advantage
A minimum of 5 years post-qualification experience working within an engineering design consultancy, with a focus on designing and delivering complex projects. If working towards CEng or IEng, at least 8 years of relevant experience is required
Capable of undertaking and leading small to medium sized projects with minimal supervision, and leading concept and detailed design reviews as part of a staged design delivery process
Structural design and assessment of concrete, steel, masonry, and timber structures, using current U.K. Standards and Eurocodes
Proficient in the use of industry-standard software for structural analysis and design, e.g., Tekla Structural Designer (TSD) or similar
Capable user of design spreadsheets, e.g., Excel and TEDDS, and knowledge of detailing packages, e.g., AutoCAD and Revit
Specifying construction information, e.g., using NBS
Able to complete structural condition surveys and reports to a high standard and to tight deadlines
Enthusastic, engaging, and a team player
Possess effective communication abilities, both written and verbal, to engage with clients and team members
Full U.K. driving licence.
