Alan Wood

02 October 2025

It is with deep sadness that we mark the passing of Alan Wood, the founder of Alan Wood & Partners.

Born and raised in Hull during the Second World War, Alan witnessed first-hand the devastation inflicted on the city.  With over 95% of Hull’s buildings damaged or destroyed, he was inspired to be part of its transformation and future. His vision was clear - to help rebuild Hull into a modern, vibrant city.

In 1968, Alan founded Alan Wood & Partners, initially operating from a modest rented room on Hull’s High Street. As the city centre continued its post-war regeneration, Alan’s forward-thinking approach and commitment to innovation positioned the company at the forefront of civil and structural engineering in the region.

Alan was more than a pioneering engineer—he was a passionate advocate for Hull and its people. With great civic pride, he supported countless local businesses, community initiatives and heritage projects, always believing in the power of collaboration.

From those humble beginnings, Alan Wood & Partners has grown into a nationally recognised consultancy, yet its heart remains in Hull—where Alan’s legacy continues to shape the skyline of the city.

Alan will be remembered not only as a visionary leader and engineer but as a true champion of his community.  His impact will be felt for generations to come.

He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege to know and work with him.
