Apprentice of the Year Award

Congraulations to our apprentice Matthew who has won the East Riding College Apprentice of the Year award for Civil Engineering 2022.
Matthew joined the company in June 2021, he had very little experience in construction initially when he started his apprenticeship, however in the few months that he has been with us, we could see that he had the potential through his hunger to learn and picked up the basics quickly. Matthew has been very pro-active in improving his own learning and is thinking, researching and then asking which is a great asset to have.
He started with reviewing detail drawings and needed to understand what had been drawn. To do this he had to research design codes and look at various literature to increase his knowledge of building techniques – it was quickly realised that learning never stops and neither has his appetite for knowledge.
Over the months Matthew has expanded his detailing and design knowledge and now covers most aspects of detail drafting from simple drainage layouts to detailing steelwork for multi-storey buildings.
Matthew is always willing to help, has a great attitude to learning and is keen to try new things to test and expand his knowledge.
