Yorkshire Sculpture Park was founded in 1977 within the grounds of the 18C Bretton Hall Estate. It was the country’s first dedicated public sculpture park and now attracts around 300,000 visitors a year.
The recent £800k restoration project has opened up 150 acres of the site, centered on two large lakes. Alan Wood & Partners were commissioned to provide conservation and structural advice on a series of historic bridges and other features ranging from a
boat house and shell grotto to an obelisk, cascade and waterfall. The bridges included masonry, arches, timber and cast iron.
We carried out an assessment of all the structures, estimated the load-carrying capacity, specified appropriate repairs and provided the schedule of works. We also supervised investigation works on site and carried out site inspections during the works.
